Picture framing is the craft of encasing and protecting photographs, artwork, certificates, and other display pieces inside a structured frame that combines a backing board, matting, and a glass or acrylic front. The purpose is twofold: shield the artwork from environmental damage such as dust, humidity, UV fading, and accidental handling, and present it in a visually cohesive way that complements both the subject and the surrounding interior.
At Vijayasai Photo Frames in Vijayawada, our framing process typically involves measuring the artwork, selecting a frame profile (wooden, metal, floating, or backlit), cutting mat board to precise proportions, assembling the frame with acid-free components, and sealing the piece with UV-protective glass. We handle everything from family photographs and wedding portraits to certificates, Thanjavur paintings, jerseys, and three-dimensional memorabilia.
Professional framing does three things that casual display cannot. First, it preserves: acid-free mat boards, archival backing, and UV-filtering glass slow the fading, yellowing, and brittleness that photographs and paintings suffer over time — particularly in humid coastal climates like coastal Andhra Pradesh. Second, it elevates: a well-chosen frame profile, mat width, and finish transforms a loose photo into a considered display piece that anchors a wall.
Third, framing adds practical longevity. Sealed frames resist dust accumulation, insects, and accidental spills, and make artwork easier to hang, transport, and gift. For heirlooms, certificates, and one-of-a-kind pieces such as Thanjavur paintings, framing is genuinely the difference between an object that survives a generation and one that doesn't. Most customers frame pieces they want to keep or display long-term.
Thanjavur painting is a classical South Indian art form that originated in 16th-century Thanjavur (Tanjore), Tamil Nadu. It is defined by four signature techniques: an overlay of genuine 22-karat gold foil on raised gesso relief work, inlaid semi-precious stones and crystals, rich natural pigments on a cotton cloth mounted over a wooden panel, and a distinctive compositional style dominated by Hindu devotional imagery — Krishna, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ganesha, Balaji, and scenes from the Ramayana and Bhagavata Purana.
At Vijayasai we handle the specialty framing these pieces demand. Because the gold foil and stone work sit above the painting surface, Thanjavur frames use deeper rabbets, custom-cut spacers, UV-protective glass, and acid-free backing to prevent pressure damage. We frame everything from small devotional pieces for home altars up to temple-scale panels commissioned for family mandirs and institutional spaces.
Our collection covers five broad families of frames. Traditional wooden frames in teak, rosewood, and other hardwoods carry ornate profiles suited to religious art, family portraits, and heritage pieces. Modern metallic frames in gold, silver, and copper finishes work well for photography and contemporary art. Minimalist aluminium and steel profiles suit office spaces, certificates, and gallery-style hangings.
Ornate carved frames with hand-finished detailing are our go-to for Thanjavur paintings and other traditional work. Contemporary floating frames create a gallery look where the artwork appears suspended inside the frame. For any of these, we can add backlit or LED-integrated lighting, museum-grade picture lights, and UV-protective glass. Because every piece is made to order in our Tarapet workshop, size, moulding depth, matting colour, and finish are all customisable to your artwork.
Standard custom framing — a photograph, certificate, or ready-to-mount print in one of our in-stock frame profiles — typically takes 1 to 3 business days from drop-off to collection. This covers measuring, mat cutting, frame assembly, glass fitting, and final sealing.
More involved commissions take longer. Thanjavur painting framing with custom-cut spacers and deeper rabbets usually needs 3 to 5 business days. Oversized pieces, bespoke hand-finished wooden profiles, LED-integrated frames, and 3D object mounting (jerseys, idols, memorabilia) can extend to a week or more depending on complexity and material availability. If you're framing for a specific event — a graduation, a wedding gift, a housewarming — we recommend dropping the piece off at least a week in advance. Urgent work can often be accommodated; call +91 866 242 1365 to discuss timelines before you visit.
Yes — custom framing is our core service, not an add-on. Every frame we make is built to order around the artwork you bring in. When you visit the studio, our team walks you through the full decision set: moulding profile (wood species, metal finish, or minimalist), frame width and depth, mat board colour and cut style (single, double, V-groove), glass choice (standard, non-reflective, or UV-protective), backing and mounting method, and any optional features such as integrated LED lighting or spacers for dimensional pieces.
We bring out physical samples so you can see frame corners against your artwork before committing. For clients who prefer remote consultation, we can discuss options over WhatsApp or phone with photos of the piece. Whether it's a single photograph, a 40-piece wedding album, office certificates in matching frames, or a Thanjavur painting for a family mandir, each job is measured, built, and finished to spec.
Absolutely. Specialty framing is one of our strongest areas. We regularly frame academic certificates and degrees, sports jerseys and signed memorabilia, military and service commendations, currency notes and coins, three-dimensional religious idols, shadowbox-style keepsake arrangements combining photos with physical objects, and heirloom items such as saree pallus, baby shoes, and wedding invitations.
Each of these categories needs a different mounting approach. Flat items like certificates work with standard matting. Jerseys and fabric pieces need acid-free pinning on a mount board with deep spacers. Three-dimensional objects need shadowbox construction — a deeper frame profile with internal shelves or mounting hardware. Coins and small objects are held with discreet conservation-grade adhesives or mechanical clips. When you visit our Tarapet studio with the object, we'll recommend the right mounting method and a frame depth that fits the item safely.
